Happy Monday! I hope everyone had an amazing holiday/holiday weekend. I was so lucky to have spent it with a boat load of amazing friends, family and our new pup. Oh….and disgusting gluttonous amounts of food and drink. HEY, if there’s one day to do it, Thanksgiving is that day.
Before the holiday, some ladies and I got in a discussion about my previous post on oils and my friend Ali opened my eyes to the all natural skin care line Living Libations by Nadine Artemis. Now, I haven’t had an opportunity to try out the products YET. Ali also adds:
All I have to say is LIVING LIBATIONS . I want to scream it at the top of my lungs to anyone looking for 100% organic, natural ALL essential oil absolutely not one chemical or alcohol hand made, sustainable skin care. The best. Period. There is no competition, no claims. This is it. I wont let anything else touch my skin. It will cure all skin ailments.
I cant stress living libations enough, there is absolutely no competition, they are the best of the best. They don’t even sell their products in stores because in order to make anything have a self life, you have to add some type of preservative or chemical, which is not the case with LL.. they hand make, package and send out all of their products from their home so that they can be literally 100% essential oils with absolutely no additives at all.
So clearly, I’m dying to try them. You may wonder why I would trust just one person’s opinion, but Ali happens to be one of the most beautiful, radiant women I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
I’ve also been really enjoying listening to Nadine’s amazing, insightful, FACTUAL lectures. She tells it like it is without being condescending or chastising. You can tell she is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about what she does and truly wants the best for anyone who is receptive of her message. I truly admire her! Below are a few of my favorite lectures. I really encourage you to listen to these lectures and seriously consider what she is saying. This is not just a bunch of frivolous, shallow beauty talk nor is it a bunch of made up hippie jargon…this is biology, nutrition and HEALTH; what I am all about.
Thank you for reading!
Today I got to meet LIL BUB! The most amazing creature on the planet!
This cat is a source of instant happiness and a reminder that you don’t have to be a cookie cutter version of what is good looking to be considered one of the cutest animals EVER!!!
BUB has many unique characteristics that make her a very special one of a kind critter. Please understand that she was NOT bred to be this way. BUB was the runt of an otherwise healthy litter from a stray outdoor mother, and was born with several genetic mutations that make her special. She is just one of nature’s happy accidents. Her foster family had a hard time finding her a home, but she now lives happily with a dude that feeds her only the best food and treats her like a queen.
BUB is a “perma-kitten”, which means she will stay kitten sized and maintain kitten-like features her entire life. She is also a dwarf, which means her limbs are disproportionately small relative to the rest of her body. She has very short, stubby legs and a weird, long, serpent-like body. Her lower jaw is very short compared to her upper jaw, and her teeth never grew in (yes, that’s right, she’s toothless!), which is why her tongue is usually hanging out. Don’t worry, BUB has a very healthy appetite and eats dry and wet food with no problems. Additionally, BUB is a polydactyl cat, meaning she has extra toes, and in her case, one extra toe on all of her four paws. Her front paws each have two opposable thumbs. And then of course there are her big, bulging, wonder-filled green eyes. Some think she can see into the future with those things.
BUB squonks, squeaks, gurgles, snorts, hiccups, purrs and sometimes even growls. She also occasionally meows, but even those sound kinda funny.
Despite her weird looks and numerous “deformities”, BUB is a healthy, happy cat. She may not be able to jump on and off stuff, but she manages by climbing using her 22 claws. She also can’t quite run or walk very well… but she is a fantastic waddler. Even though she has no teeth, she has a fierce appetite, and can take down half of a bowl of dry food without any problems (the other half winds up scattered on the floor). Just like other cats, she poops and pees in the litter box, likes to chase bugs and is always cleaning her luxurious coat and sometimes even her dude’s beard.
Yes, that’s right, this acne prone, oily skinned lady is having quite the time experimenting with oils….and I think things are getting serious.
I’ve been told for a while now that putting straight up oil on my face was the solution for all of my skin woes. Cue me smiling, nodding and continuously blasting my face with harsh acne treatments. But of course, my curiosity got the best of me, and I began experimenting with oils at the beginning of the summer.
First up was argan oil. Argan oil is a key ingredient in a lot of hair, skin and body products these days, but I am not messing around…I went for the pure stuff. There are a lot of different brands of pure argan oil, but I got my particular bottle at the Terre D’Oc store in Rockefeller Center. I sort of eased my way into using this, first only applying it to my body after the shower until I finally worked up the nerve to put it on my face. This stuff not only made the skin on my body all hydrated and glowy, but I did not break out on my face once and got tons of compliments on my skin. Argan oil is chock full of healthy fatty acids and vitamin e (hello, healing and soothing) so your skin becomes plump, smooth and even. Unfortunately when I ran out, I didn’t have enough money to buy a new bottle. This oil is pricey! I’ve heard that in Morocco, where argan oil originates, you can find a gallon for something absurd like 9 cents.
Fortunately for me I was gifted a giant bottle of pure maracuja oil by the lovely folks at Tarte.
And not a moment too soon because my skin has become extremely flaky with the transition the winter. Maracuja is similar in feel to argan oil, but is packed with vitamin c, which is really helpful in brightening the skin and evening discoloration. I will say, when I first started using this oil (about 2 drops pressed onto my face twice a day) I did see a lot of clogged pores. When I spoke with a representative from Tarte, he said this was perfectly normal, my skin was “purging” (gross) and that I should power through. Well I did, and couldn’t be any happier. My skin is more radiant than ever (Is that even okay to say? Is that bragging?), break outs are at a minimum and I practically have 0 scarring or discoloration. I am hydrated but not greasy in the slightest. I will definitely not be wasting this on my dumb body like I did with the argan oil because lo and behold I have discovered….
COCONUT OIL! I gotta say, I am pretty late in the game on this one. I have heard people raving about coconut oil for a while now and I just wasn’t sure what to think. I am so reluctant to believe the hype on basically anything and have a really bad habit of even going so far as avoiding products/trends/crazes….I’m not sure what it’s about. I just listened to “Call Me Maybe” for the first time a few weeks ago and wish I hadn’t waited so long. Why do I cheat myself this way?
The same goes for coconut oil. I saw my roommate had a giant jar of it in our bathroom and after taking a whiff, I knew I couldn’t put off trying it any longer. I got my own jar and have fallen deeply, deeply in love. I am obsessed with all things coconut and was so enchanted with the smell of this stuff I went so far as sticking a spoon in the jar and eating a massive glob of it straight up. No shame….it was pretty damn good. I may or may not have eaten a second spoonful with peanut butter on top. After that, I stuck the jar the bathroom and slather it on after the shower, put it on my cuticles, on any flaky patches of my face and run THE TINIEST AMOUNT in my hair. I have to say…you really have to take it easy with this in your hair. Just one drop too much and your hair will look nothing short of extremely disgusting. Other than that, coconut oil is a brilliant, extremely cheap all-purpose product.
I definitely encourage anyone and everyone to try an oil for their skin, hair or wherever they need soothing, healing or hydration. I truly believe there is an oil out there for everyone and they are an extremely natural and safe way to beautify!
Oh, and if you didn’t catch the reference in the title of this post:
…yeah I’m not sure either. What I do know is that this 100% natural balm for whatever you choose it to be for is this new self-proclaimed lip balm addicts favorite. I found this little gem, a staple amongst many professional make-up artists, a couple of months ago at Sephora, of course, and have since been obsessed.
I use this as a lip balm, as a lip gloss over lip stains, as a cuticle moisturizer, and most importantly I use it in place of Neosporin during a good, old fashioned remove and lube. Apparently it can also be used as, and was originally formulated for, breast feeding mothers chafed nipples, and is so safe and natural that according to the company’s adorable website you can use it “anywhere you think you might need it”.
Well after several months use, I am happy to say that anywhere I think I might need it and then subsequently put it, it works.

This may come as a surprise to… well, all of you because I appear to be such a beacon of intellectualism, but I am a rabid super-fan of the T.V. franchise that is The Bachelor/The Bachelorette/The Bachelor Pad. Just ask my poor boyfriend about how I’m constantly comparing our relationship to that of the precious Emily Maynard and Jef with one F. To me, the premise of finding everlasting love in a freaky, polygamous, extreme speed dating extravaganza is pure reality television genius.
Needless to say when Michelle Money of The Bachelor season 15/The Bachelor Pad season 2 fame came into the Sephora where I work a few weeks ago I was just absolutely beside myself. The only “celebrities” that really get a reaction out of me are those of reality T.V. fame. I approached her immediately and she was extremely sweet, cool, complimentary and told me about her YouTube channel where she posts beauty tips.
I just got around to checking it out today and I’m slightly addicted. No, her and her partner in crime Laura do not utilize natural beauty products, but they definitely have some great tips and tutorials that can be modified for use with natural products. There is just something I find so entertaining about these two.
Below is one of my personal favorites.
Hope y’all enjoy as much as I do!
